Snellville Visitor Guide
Visitors to Snellville may fly into Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and then drive south for two miles on Interstate 85 and connect with Interstate 285, a bypass route that circles around Atlanta. Take 285 east and exit at Highway 78. Continue driving east about 10 miles to Snellville. Visitors who are driving in through Athens from the east will enjoy a 45 mile drive along beautiful scenic countryside through Monroe and Loganville before reaching Snellville. If driving from the north, just connect with Interstate 285, exit at Highway 78, and then proceed east on 78. If arriving from the south, the same connection to Interstate 285 and Highway 78 can be made.
How to create a fun weekend vacation in and around Snellville
One way to create a fun weekend holiday vacation experience would be to include a day long stop at the 3,200 acre Stone Mountain Park, which is only 7 miles west of Snellville on Highway 78. Stone Mountain Park contains the Crossroads, an historic living museum where docents in period costumes from the 1870’s demonstrate their skills at the arts of glass blowing, candy making and blacksmithing. Take a cruise across Stone Mountain Lake on the Scarlett O'Hara, a beautiful bright white, side-wheeled paddleboat with shiny red trim paint that picks up passengers every half hour. Ride the Scenic Railroad on a 5 mile excursion around Stone Mountain in open-air cars pulled by a 1940’s locomotive, relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. For an even more exciting experience, take the Summit Skyride high-speed Swiss cable car to the top of Stone Mountain and enjoy stunning views of the Atlanta skyline and the Appalachian Mountains more than 60 miles away. Be sure to spend some time at the Antebellum Plantation where a collection of historic 18th and 19th century buildings was assembled by carefully moving them from their original locations and then restoring them to preserve their authenticity and historic value.
With a variety of shops, restaurants, recreational activities, and an abundance of nearby attractions, Snellville has a lot to offer to visitors. Shoppers can have fun browsing through the Avenue Webb Gin outlet shopping mall in Snellville. Located in Snellville’s commercial shopping zone at 1350 Scenic Highway North, the Avenue Webb Gin contains diverse mix of signature national retail stores.
An even larger shopping mall is only 6 miles away in Lawrenceville where Discover Mills is located. Discover Mills is a 1.2 million sq. ft. shopping mall with more than 200 retail stores, restaurants and entertainment attractions like the Action Skatepark, a small concert cafe, and rotating exhibits in Georgia’s only annexes for the Georgia Music and Sports Halls of Fame. It is doubtful whether anybody could include all these fun activities in a one weekend itinerary, so scheduling additional time may be a very good idea.
