Snellville Arts, Theatre, and Museums

Snellville is home to two excellent community theater companies, both of which offer many exciting opportunities for involvement to local residents. New London Theater consists of volunteers whose mission is to provide high quality, family oriented theatrical entertainment at an affordable price. New London Theater produces 8 shows each year that run for 3 weeks each. Acting classes are offered to people of all ages, there’s a summer acting camp people can join for several weeks, and the Theater also has many opportunities for people to audition for parts in shows. The New London Theater is located at 2485 Main Street East SW, (770) 559-1484.

The Gwinnett Ballet Theatre at 2204 Fountain Square, (770) 978-0188, has been providing local dancers with the training and performing experience necessary for a professional dance career since 1977. As Gwinnett County’s first and oldest non-profit performing arts organization, the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre is a prized community asset whose performances entertain more than 12,000 people each year.

5 miles from Snellville is a children’s theater and a children’s art museum

The Aurora Theatre at 128 Pike Street in Lawrenceville, (678) 226-6222, features the Aurora’s Children’s Playhouse with 40 to 55 minute performances that are affectionately referred to as short plays for short people. Aurora Academy, the educational wing of the Aurora Theatre, also conducts a summer camp program for about 135 children of all ages and provides a series of acting classes during the fall.

Children of every age who love art will find something of interest at the Children's Art Museum, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Suite 300, in Duluth, (770) 623-6002, which is about 10 miles from Snellville. The Museum’s Grand Hall features the Arts Safari with 6 colorful kiosks, each of which has its own animal sculpture that represents various artistic fields such as the visual arts, literary arts, drama, dance, and music. There’s also a do-it-yourself puppet theater, a magic kaleidoscope, and two huge musical installations. One is a foot powered, giant keyboard on the floor that allows children to dance on it to create original melodies. The other exhibit is an 8 ft. tall harp whose strings play chords when plucked. The Children's Art Museum provides many hands-on art projects that were designed to teach children about art and during the summer months, children can join the museum’s two week day camp for children who are between the ages of 5 through 12.
